The swimming here is calm and clear, so it's easy on little ones and anyone who just wants to float. Shell hunters do well too, especially along the quieter stretches of shoreline. If you'd rather stretch your legs, a nature trail winds back through the dunes and mangroves, and there's a small marina where you can tie up and wander into the island's shady interior.

For a Caladesi day trip, the 6-hour Island-Hopper is the sweet spot. Four hours can feel rushed once you factor in the cruise over, and eight is more than most families need. Six gives you time to anchor, swim, explore the trail, and still cruise back with the sun still high. Wild bottlenose dolphins show up along the way almost every day, so keep your camera close.
