What we have is a central, easy-to-reach dock in Clearwater that puts the whole southern run within reach. From IRB it's a short, low-fuss drive north on Gulf Blvd, over to the mainland, and straight to the Seminole Street launch. Park, meet us at 8am or whenever your window starts, and skip the beach-traffic circus around the pier. Because IRB guests are already down the coast, the trips that fit you best run south — and that's some of the best water we have. Point toward John's Pass and the southern sandbars and you'll cruise the same barrier-island shoreline you walk on foot, except now you can nose up to a sandbar nobody can reach from the sand. The Intracoastal side is calm and forgiving for a first-time self-driver, while the passes open you up to the Gulf when the weather's kind. Wild bottlenose dolphins work this stretch almost daily, and there's a good chance you'll pick up an escort somewhere along the run.

You've got two boats to pick from, both late-model and both built for a lazy Gulf day. The Berkshire pontoon seats 9; the Viaggio tritoon seats 12 and handles a little more chop if you want to poke out a pass. Each comes with a bimini top for shade, a Bluetooth stereo, a cooler for your drinks, and life jackets for everyone aboard. Rentals run $399 for 4 hours, $499 for 6, and $599 for 8, plus tax and fuel — bring a crew and it's a bargain per head against renting chairs and umbrellas for the day.

Drive it yourself or add a licensed captain — your call. To self-drive you'll need to be 25 or older with a little boating experience, and if you were born on or after January 1, 1988, Florida requires a Boating Safety Education ID Card.
